A key element of the Sustainable Diets for All (SD4ALL) programme is building multi-stakeholder coalitions and using innovative process facilitation methodologies like Change Labs.
A Change Lab is an open space, hub or platform where stakeholders work together to seize upon new developments and innovations that address the complex challenges they are trying to solve in a lasting and equitable way. Beyond technology, these innovations can be in public policy, new business models, the framing of cultural values and behavioural change.
Food Change Lab
In a Food Change Lab, multiple actors share knowledge, evidence and ideas, and together develop local examples of how food systems can be transformed. Because food system issues are so complex, with a myriad of actors and underlying issues and policies, the Labs take a systems approach that integrates thinking, relating and doing. Concrete coalitions and ideas on the ground are translated into advocacy efforts at the national and international levels.
Hivos, IIED and partners are supporting food lab processes that bring together various regional sustainable diets stakeholders in Uganda, Zambia, Indonesia and Bolivia. You can watch fascinating footage from the 2015 food change labs held in Zambia and Indonesia following the links at the top of the right sidebar.
